Helen S. Landgraf was a talented and prolific artist in many medias. She taught art classes, showed extensively, and enjoyed working in her studio as well as plein air painting. Her favorite subject was the California landscape and she and her husband, John, took road trips throughout the state for inspiration.  Helen’s family had homesteaded in Elk Grove in the Sacramento Valley and her love of place and history is evident in her work. She also led painting trips to the former Yugoslavia and loved capturing images of the sea and the historic coastal cities of Split and Dubrovnik. Helen had a deep connection to the Sierra foothills and painted sites throughout the Motherlode as well as Strawberry, Bodie, etc. starting in the 1940s up until her death in 1999.

Christine Landgraf followed in her mother’s artistic footsteps but quickly found her own powerful style and unique vision. She was an amazing artist in many media including drawing, ceramics, oil painting, dressmaking, weaving, and etching.
